Valdalen Gård is an old mountain farm located 800 meters above sea level, between Femundsmarka and Gutulia national parks, and between Elgå by Femund and the Swedish border.
Valdalen farm has been run as a tourist business since 1946, it was then run by Martin's parents, Martin and Inga, who built more cabins as the need for accommodation increased. This resulted in a cabin every two to three years. In 1971, the main house, which is today the boarding house building, was extended. The kitchen and dining room were extended, and it was extended with a spacious living room with a fireplace. Here today there is space for approx. 60 diners at the same time. In parallel, farming was carried out, first with milk production, and later with sheep. The farm has a license to farm deer, and is in the process of breeding deer.
We have 4 cabins on the farm and 4 rooms in the boarding house, total accommodation capacity is 44 beds. In recent years, we have upgraded some of the cabins and raised the standard.
Deer rearing on the farm falls right into the local food initiative that Engerdal municipality is facilitating. The municipality was also the initiator of investing in deer as an industry. The challenges with predators make deer farming very relevant.
Local food and locally produced raw materials will continue to be a supporting element for Valdal AS, this will provide good dining experiences and give us a competitive advantage. Deer farming contributes with quality raw materials and briefly gives new meaning to the concept of food.
The farm has been granted a license for deer breeding for up to 30 live animals. The farm has the right to use the state commons and has been given permission to fence in 250 daa of grazing land. An application will be made for the increase in the license adapted to the area expansion.
