Sømåen Tradisjonshandverk AS was formed in 2008.
A large part of the work assignments have been rafting, replacement of rot-damaged timber and general refurbishment of older buildings. We also take on small and large new buildings and extensions, in both laths and trusses, as well as the vast majority of other carpentry/carpentry work. We can also assist with applications to, for example, the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Fund, where a work and project description, as well as a cost estimate are required in the application.
In 2014, we took over the production of the traditional Femund boat. Two men were apprenticed to boat builder Egil Røsten in Elgå, now they master the trade on their own and production is underway.
In our work, we are very concerned about material quality, we cut and cut some timber ourselves. This particularly applies to round timber and ridges for rafts, boat materials, rough dimensions, blanks for roof studs, etc.
We have a warehouse and sawmill in Sømådalen.
Plans for further use of the sawmill are being prepared. In addition, we own a band saw that is well suited for cutting through and rough dimensions. We are also part owners of a timber trailer with crane for tractor. In other words, in theory we have the opportunity to be self-sufficient in timber and materials for restoration projects. In the long term, we want to achieve precisely this.
