The property
The steamship company Fæmund was founded in 1886, and the following year they purchased a wooden ship. The boat was christened "Fæmund".

Since then there has been continuous scheduled traffic on the lake. In 1904, the company decided to purchase another ship, a steam-powered iron ship, 82 feet long and 6 feet deep. The ship was transported in parts from Trondheim by rail to Røros. From there by horse to Synnervika where the ship was riveted together. The boat was completed in the spring of 1905, and since then has been plying Femunden every single season. The boat was christened "Fæmund II". Even up to the year 1945, the boat was fired exclusively with wood, and it went about 300 fathoms each season. In 1958, the old steam engine was replaced with a 160 hp diesel engine. You can see the boat daily in Elgå from about 5/6-8/8. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays you can join the boat on a Minicruise starting and stopping in Elgå in the period 26.6-7.8.
