In addition to its two national parks, Engerdal National Park Municipality has; Femundsmarka National Park and Gutulia National Park, several conservation areas.

The national parks and protected areas help to leave their mark on Engerdal. There are endless hiking opportunities here in both summer and winter. Great mountain lakes with unique fishing opportunities, fantastic views and rich cultural heritage.

Femundsmarka National Park

The Femundsmarka with its gentle expanses and countless lakes invites you to an experience of peace, tranquility and silence. The area has its distinctive wilderness area with pine forest, blocky land, low mountains and water. This is an eldorado for hikers and fishermen. With a fishing rod and tent, one can follow the countless waters in the field, fishing luck cannot be bought, but cultivated through patience and familiarity with the area.

Gutulia National Park

In Gutulia, the forest is allowed to develop freely, and the researchers can study it through generations of trees. For 200 years until 1949 there was a seat operation in Gutulia. The seat houses are protected and restored. Koia at setra is open for free use and accommodation. The national park is located east of Femunden, by the signposted road 3 km east from county road 654. Gutulia National Park – Gutulisetra is Universally designed with an organized hiking trail and outdoor activities. It is also possible to use a boat over the sea.​

Kvisleflået nature reserve

Kvisleflået Nature Reserve was expanded in 2005 and is now 56,8 km2, and lies east of Kvilten (Drevsjø). To get to the reserve, you can take highway 25 at Kvilten, and take Lortsetervegen or Østveien inland to the reserve. In this wetland area there are distinctive landscapes, lush vegetation and a rich wildlife.

Galtsjøen nature reserve

Galtsjøen Nature Reserve is 5 km2 and is located by Isterfossen and southwards along national road 217 around Galthåen and Galtsjøen. This is an important wetland area with a particularly rich bird life.

Bjørkodden nature reserve

Located on the west side of Femund in Kvennvika west of Storholmen up towards Wesle Kvennvikhøgda. The reserve was established in 2005. Bjørnberga and Istern nature reserve Located between Femund and Istern, from Slaggtjønna in the north to Gløta in the south. The reserve was established in 2005 and covers 88 acres.

Volaberget and Kvemskjølen nature reserve

The nature reserve includes Volaberget and Kvemskjølen. Bordering Brattmyråsen and Vorda in the south, in the east it descends towards Lake Halvorsjøen. the reserve was established in 2005, and is 16 daa.

Grøvelsjøen nature reserve

The area is around the farms Ryvang and Sylen. Grøvelsjøen nature reserve was established in 2005 and covers an area of ​​13,6 km2. There is a regular passenger boat across Grøvelsjøen between Sjøstugan and Sylen during the summer. Boat transfers with M/S syløra must be booked in advance. See more information below.

Femundslia landscape conservation area

Located between Femund and Femundsmarka National Park. The area is approximately 40 km2, and touches both Engerdal and Røros municipalities. The purpose of the establishment is to take care of the distinctive natural landscape.
