More and more people are discovering the exciting pike fishing for char. The season starts right after the ice settles in October and November, and the char bite all winter. In recent years, many large char have been caught throughout the winter in Femund Engerdal.
There are an infinite number of ice fishing lakes to choose from, some are easily accessible, and others are further into the wilderness, and require longer ski trips before you get there. It's not just char that bites, you can try your hand at ice fishing for grayling, whitefish, perch, pike or tench. Many come for ice fishing in late winter.
Between Sorken and Elgå there are many fine lakes with char: Rørsjøen, Storsjøen, Hammarsjøen, Djupsjøen, Volsjøen and Lille Elgåsjøen. Looking for a real big char? Try Hansbekktjønna, Kjerrtjønna, Høgåstjønna and Stortjønna.

Further north in Femundsmarka National Park you can fish for char in Revlingsjøene, Røvoltjerne, Skogtjønna, Korstjønna, Roastsjøene, Store and Lille Vonsjøen and Kratlan is well known for fine char.

At Sølenstua and down Elvdalen there are good char opportunities in Nordre Hulltjern, Upper and Lower Vikbutjønna, Elvsetertjønna, Stormyrtjønna and not least Skjærbekktjønna on Rømundfjellet.

In the north of Lake Engersjøen, where the Engeråa flows into the lake, many large grayling are caught in the spring. The best time to catch trout is in January and February, but it is also possible to hit well later in the winter.

The large fishing lake Hognsjøen, in the south of the municipality, needs no further introduction, nor does Røåstjønna, east of Hylleråsen - a pure char lake with fantastic char.
