In Gutulia, the forest is allowed to develop freely, and the researchers can study it through generations of trees. For 200 years until 1949 there was a seat operation in Gutulia. The seat houses are protected and restored. Koia at setra is open for free use and accommodation. The national park is located east of Femunden, by the road sign 3 km east from county road 654. Gutulia National Park – Gutulisetra is universally designed with an organized hiking trail and outdoor activities. It is also possible to use a boat across the lake.
At the southeast end of Lake Gutulisjøen lies the beautiful Gutulisetra. Here you will also find the three hillforts Nedpåvollen, Oppåvollen and Lillebovollen.
Throughout the summer season, hosts are on site at the lodge. They can answer questions about the area.
In the period 28 June–13 August there are open seats at Nedpåvollen, Gutulisetra. Here, there is simple service every day at 11–17, except Mondays.
From the mid-1750s, people from the farms Lillebo and Sorken brought their animals here to graze every summer. The farm continued until 1949. Between 1975 and 1983, the 16 log cabins were restored using old craftsmanship. In the "Ostebua" at Oppåvollen you will find an open rest hut.
The old, well-maintained and sun-burnt timber buildings provide a unique atmosphere and many nice photo opportunities. At the topmost farm, Oppåvollen, there is a small exhibition with text and pictures about life on the farms over 200 years.
From Gutulisetra you can follow a 1,5 km long nature and adventure trail with over 20 signs. Along the trail you will find, among other things, Storgrana, wolf lichen, animals that live in the area and various cultural monuments. Keep your eyes open and look for birds in the trees. The rest of the national park has no prepared trails, so here you can go exploring in an old and untouched forest.
Would you like a good view of Gutulia and the surrounding areas? Gutulivola at 949 m above sea level is only 2 km from Gutulisetra.
From here you can see Femundsmarka in the north, across to Sweden in the east and towards Sølen in the west. The path starts at Gutulisetra, and takes you through the old forest in a steady climb up to the top. On the way there it is nice to take in the nice view from Ørnhammeren.
Allemannsretten gives us the opportunity to travel freely. Nevertheless, you are obliged to act with consideration, so that animals and plants are not damaged or disturbed. Leave nature the way you want to find it.
